Inspired by the agricultural rhythm of Chongming’s fields, the project transforms a substation into a subtle landscape structure that resonates with its surroundings. Two layers of prefabricated weathering steel—solid and perforated—translate the linear order of farmland into architectural form, merging infrastructure with the patterns of cultivation. The design restores existing farmland and woodland ecologies, introducing bio-retention zones and native planting to enhance biodiversity. Through simplicity, rhythm, and material honesty, the substation becomes a quiet landmark rooted in its local landscape.
